WHAT IS THE NMSPG?

The Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy Group (NMSPG) is a Special Interest Group (SIG) of the South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP)

The NMSPG is affiliated with the International Federation of Manual & Musculoskeletal Physical Therapists (IFOMPT), a non-government federation representing international collaboration in manual and musculoskeletal therapy. IFOMPT is a recognised sub-group of World Physiotherapy (WPT), which in turn is a part of the World Health Organization (WHO).

WHO IS NMSPG?

The physiotherapists in this group have a special interest in assessing, treating, and preventing neuromusculoskeletal (NMS) conditions using a clinically reasoned approach to manual therapy, rehabilitation, and education, while incorporating the biopsychosocial framework, individual to each patient.

PURPOSE:

We aim to promote excellence in NMS physiotherapy and optimise NMS health for all, by;

*  Supporting our members nationally in achieving and maintaining high quality standards of healthcare delivery by encouraging and providing continuing education in evidence-based practice
*  Providing our members with good value service resources and networking across the country
*  Encouraging our members to produce on-going good quality research
*  Representing our members nationally at the South African Society of Physiotherapy, and internationally, at the International Federation of Manual and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists (IFOMPT).
* Promoting a wider understanding of the role of the NMS physiotherapist, within our profession, other health professions, and the public at large

EDUCATION:

The NMSPG provides an APDL 2 course, the Advanced Neuromusculoskeletal Course, (ANMSC) which is run nationally on an annual basis. Each year it runs in 2 – 3 provinces, which change year on year. The ANMSC is aligned with evidence-based developments in manual and musculoskeletal physiotherapy globally

The ANMSC covers the assessment, management, and rehabilitation of neuromusculoskeletal (NMS) disorders presented in five modules over a year with online preparation between modules
