Medical professional indemnity and general public and product liability cover need to be paid separately from your SASP membership fee
Recent communication from the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) to the insurance sector requires medical professional indemnity (MPI) and general public (GPL) and product liability (PL) premiums to be paid directly to the insurer or a dedicated premium collection agency, nominated by them. As a result, the SA Society of Physiotherapy (SASP) will not be involved in collecting or paying any MPI and/or GPL and PL cover on your behalf and this will not form part of your SASP membership benefits. You are responsible for obtaining your MPI and/or GPL and PL cover and paying the premiums separately from your SASP membership fee.
The SASP is not a licenced financial service provider and can therefore not provide you with any financial or insurance advice or services.
The SASP’s broker, CFP Brokers, is a registered financial services provider. CFP Brokers has negotiated an excellent MPI / GPL and PL premium with Hollard which is available to you as an existing or new SASP member. You can contact Lauren at insurance-SASP@cfpbrokers.co.za for MPI and/or GPL and PL assistance.
- If you were a ‘complete’ / ‘paid up’ member of the SASP before 1 May 2020 (with no default in payment) and your chosen SASP membership category had MPI and/or GPL and PL cover, this cover was part of your 2020 SASP membership fees / benefits and it was paid over to CFP Brokers. Your MPI and/or GPL and PL cover started from 1 January 2020 and your retroactive cover remains intact, provided you were a SASP member in 2019 (with no default in payment).
- If you were a ‘complete’ / ‘paid up’ member of the SASP from 1 May 2020, the responsibility of obtaining MPI and/or GPL and PL cover would be yours.
If you are a ‘complete’ / ‘paid up’ member of the SASP in 2020 (with no default in payment), CFP Brokers has extended a grace period up to 31 March 2021 for 2021 SASP members to insure that there is no ‘break’ in MPI and/or GPL and PL cover. Your retroactive cover will remain intact, and your 2021 MPI and/or GPL and PL will start from 1 January 2021.
