Your physiotherapist’s guidelines will help you stay pain-free at work

• Wear shoes with a non-slip sole - back injuries are often caused by the sudden stress placed on the back when you slip!
• Always squat to lift heavy objects, and use the strength of your thigh and stomach muscles to lift, rather than your back. Never bend at the waist to lift things - this is one of the most common causes of back strain.
• When carrying objects, hold your head up and keep your back straight. Hold the object close to your body and tighten your stomach muscles to take some strain.
• Carry the weight evenly - the weight should not be heavier on one side of your body than the other.
• Never twist your back with something heavy in your hands.
