National Physiotherapy Week: 4 - 10 September 2023

We are privileged to have ‘National Physiotherapy Back Week’ present annually on the National Health Calendar. It is usually presented in the 2nd week of September each year around International Physiotherapy Day on 8 September. During the week physiotherapists volunteer their time to promote healthy living and educate the public on how to prevent and manage neck and back injuries.

Physiotherapists might visit schools, carry out screening and educational programmes in their practices, set up community-based activities e.g. at clinics, hospitals and public sports and recreational areas. The week also provides us with an opportunity to promote the various fields of practice of physiotherapy (i.e. not only the management of musculoskeletal problems such as neck and back injuries) to both the public and our medical colleagues.

The theme for this year will be announced at a later date.

International Physical/Physiotherapy DAY

The sole international voice for physical therapy (physiotherapy) is the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT). The South African Society of Physiotherapy is a member of the WCPT. WCPT annually celebrates ‘World Physical Therapy Day’ on 8 September, every year. The day provides an opportunity for physiotherapists world-wide to raise awareness about the crucial contribution we make in keeping people well, mobile and independent.
